FAQs

What can I expect in a counselling session?

A session usually lasts 50 minutes, I work with weekly sessions. Session content is led by you - it can change week by week however there is usually an overall focus or sense of purpose relating to the sessions.  Between sessions, it can be useful for people to consider the content of their sessions, occasionally people may wish to try something out in order to discuss it in their next meeting. I like to work in a client led way - this means you control the pace at which we proceed. It is your time to talk about whatever you wish. If you need to sit quietly you can. If you need me to listen I will. If you decide to set a goal, we can explore how to make this happen. You may be worried you have nothing to say - this is a common talking point, and a situation I am used to navigating. For sessions to be beneficial you must be willing to participate! Often building up trust involves taking a risk, however this can pay off big time as it allows you to view yourself in a different light. As we get to know each other better I may offer alternative perspectives or gently challenge you if I feel it might be helpful to do so - this will always be done with the intention to build up rather than knock down, and always in a respectful way! You get to challenge me too - I am very open to feedback and feel it makes for a productive working relationship.

Are you Qualified?

Yes, I've completed a number of formal counselling qualifications, and continue to refresh my knowledge, attending regular workshops, courses and self directed learning. You can read more about this by clicking HERE. I can provide you with evidence of any training undertaken if required. I am also fully Insured and registered with several Professional bodies including the BACP and NCS. I have a full enhanced DBS check and regular clinical supervision in place.

How many sessions do you provide?

The support I offer is open ended, meaning I don't set a limit on how many times we meet. This means you can work at a pace thats good for you, if you need a little time to build up trust or even to figure out what it is we are dealing with. We'll review things at regular intervals to make sure I am meeting your expectations and things are on track.

If you are working to a timescale or a budget thats fine, let me know what you need - we can use that to our advantage by working in a more solution focussed way. Your sessions are tailored to suit you, one of the benefits of working with people privately is not having to provide a 'one size fits all' approach.

Final sessions can provide a chance to review what was useful and often provide a good transferable learning opportunity in terms of how we 'do' endings - which so often can be negative experiences!

Do you work Evenings?

Yes, I have a limited number of Evening sessions, they are understandably very popular for those working office hours. For those working shifts or with availability in the daytime morning and afternoon appointments are available - contact details to check out the latest availability can be found HERE - let me know when is best for you.

Is there a waiting list?

I hate waiting for appointments as much as the next person! From your initial contact, I will offer a range of days and times in order for us to meet up for a preliminary talk as soon as is possible, depending on your own flexibility but usually within a week. From here we can discuss a time you can commit to on a weekly basis and take it from there.

How much do you charge?

Initial meetings are currently provided without charge, this is due to the necessity to ascertain I am right for you, and that I can help with your situation - Like a free quote if you like!

Once we decide to work together, sessions are charged at a rate of £50.00 per session. Full payment details can be found HERE.

Do you work with Couples or Young People?

Currently I do not work with Couples or anybody under the age of 18. Referrals to Colleagues who work specifically in these areas can be provided.

Do you provide home visits?

No - I do not visit clients in their own homes - Facilities at my place of work are fully accessible on the ground floor and ramps are available for those who have trouble with steps. The centre is within close proximity to bus routes. If you are housebound or a full time carer I can provide details of Colleagues who are happy to come to you - please enquire.

Do you offer online Counselling?
